An ability represents a character’s skill level when approaching a related challenge; a higher number means a higher chance of success when using that attribute. Your characters abilities define how they interact with the world, what they are capable of and how they are flawed. It may to be just a collection of stats, but it is where your character lives and it defines how they interact with the world.
Ability Score
A characters abilities are measured in ranks, shown by the number of dots next to the ability on their character card. The greater your rank, the better your chance of success whilst using that ability.
🔘 Talented Having a single rank means you have a talent but little experience. You can handle routine tasks and even overcome challenging obstacles, given enough time. Certain tasks, however, are beyond your ability.
🔘🔘 Experienced At this rank, you combine your natural talents with extensive experience. Your skill far exceeds that of the common folk. You are often the best at what you do, and can confidently tackle most challenges and with a little luck, can pull off some pretty impressive feats.
🔘🔘🔘 Master At this rank, people use you as an example, and seek you out to learn from you or to ask you questions. You can confidently tackle any challenge, with only the most difficult challenges giving your pause for thought.
Command
When you command, you make demands or enforce a dominating influence over someone.
You Might use this to:
- inspire an ally to action
- intimidate characters to follow your orders
- control beasts and crowds
- captivate attention and be heard
Craft
When you craft, you create or shape something through deliberate artistry and creativity.
You Might use this to:
- create a new gadget or alter an existing item
- fashion a disguise
- cook food or brew drinks, poisons and potions
- make ammunition explosives or smoke screens
- repair or upgrade armour, jewellery or weaponry
Divine
When you divine, you you wield a deity’s power to influence or understand world.
You Might use this to:
- identify and dispel magick
- cast a spell
- decipher ancient tomes and scrolls
- learn new spells, rituals, or magick I think this could be conjure instead of divine
Endure
When you endure, you resist adverse force or influence without yielding.
You Might use this to:
- endure physical hardships
- maintain composure in the face of fear
- minimise the impact of injuries
- remain unaffected by sense impairing substances
- go prolonged periods without food, water, or rest
Force
When you force, you compel something or someone to do something through physical coercion.
You Might use this to:
- grapple an opponent or escape from their grapple
- open locked doors or chests
- hold onto something against resistance
- physically intimidate enemies
- perform melee attacks
- move heavy things
Handle
When you handle, you manipulate, control, or use something with dexterity and skill using your hands.
You Might use this to:
- pick someone’s pocket
- conceal small objects
- plant or switch items unnoticed
- crack a safe or pick a lock
- disable an alarm or trap
- control a mount with reins
- play a musical instrument
Search
When you search, you explore or examine something or someone in order to discover information, objects, or clues.
You Might use this to:
- uncover hidden clues and secret passages
- find valuable loot or treasure
- find tracks or footprints
- find clues at a library
Move
When you move, you move quickly and precisely with grace and gusto.
You Might use this to:
- dodge incoming attacks
- perform acrobatics or stunts
- jump a fence, climb into a window or leap between rooftops
Perceive
When you perceive, you use your senses to become aware of or understand something or someone.
You Might use this to:
- spot the signs of trouble before it happens
- uncover opportunities or weaknesses
- detect a person’s motivations or true intentions
- closely analyse a person to perceive hidden truths
- examine events to understand a pressing situation // observe // might be better to describe?
Perform
When you perform, you captivate an audience with skill
You Might use this to:
- inspire or evoke specific emotions
- act as another character would or deceive others
- entertain crowds or distract enemies
- sleight of hand or illusion
- convey information secretly in a message
Persuade
When you persuade, you soothe, demand or delight by compelling attraction, enthusiasm or loyalty.
You Might use this to:
- lie convincingly
- gain access to secured resources or information
- make a good impression or convince someone
- transcend class and cultural barriers
- charm the guards or at least bribe them
Sneak
When you sneak, you mask or conceal yourself or intentions in a subtle way to avoid detection.
You Might use this to:
- skulk in the shadows
- hide without being noticed
- ambush from a hidden position
